You can be an AYSO referee!
Region 42 needs to fill hundreds of adult referee slots during the soccer season, for both the competitive (U10/12/14) and noncompetitive (U7/8) divisions. Please consider the points below and volunteer to become a referee.
No experience required
You don't need to know how to play soccer, or how to referee, or the laws of the game. The majority of AYSO soccer referees never played soccer themselves.
Referee clinics
We teach you the laws of the game and how to be a referee with free referee training.
Mentoring program
Our staff of experienced, trained mentors will upon request support new and existing referees during their games to answer questions, increase confidence levels, and improve refereeing skills.
Online scheduler
You pick your own schedule of games each week with our online scheduler.
In the U10/12/14 divisions, you never have to referee your own child's game
Once your child enters the competitive divisions you will referee other teams, at the age/division level commensurate with your refereeing training and experience. If your child is in the U7/8 divisions, you will commonly referee your child's games, but are free to referee the matches of other teams.
Earn referee points that are needed by your child's U10/12/14 team
Points earned by a team's adult referee are added to the team's total points. Each team can earn 2 referee points per weekend, up to a total of 15 referee points for the season. Any team without referee points will not place high in the final standings even if they have won most or all of their games! U7/8 teams do not need points, but referee points can be earned by center refereeing 8U games (a half-point per assignment).
Refereeing is a co-ed activity
We need men and women to volunteer to be referees!
Free uniforms provided by Region 42
Once you successfully complete the Basic Referee Clinic, we will provide you with a referee uniform (shirts, shorts, socks, whistle, badge) at no charge. You provide sneakers, hat, etc.
Bonus benefits!
As a referee you get VIP parking at Pepper Tree Park! If you referee two or more games in a day, you can also get free food from the Snack Shack (at Pepper Tree, when available).
Better enjoyment of your child's games
As a referee you will gain a much deeper understanding and appreciation of the game, which will result in a richer experience when you watch your own child's game.
